Elya’s award-winning senior thesis
Elya graduates from UCLA
Attached herewith is Elya Marie Filler’s Senior Thesis titled “Sex in the Company of Soldiers: The Role of Japan’s Comfort System and U.S. Military Prostitution in the Development of Eastern Asia’s Contemporary Sex Industry.”
Elya is the recipient of the Global Studies Senior Thesis Award for 2008-2009 at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her paper was chosen unanimously by a panel of faculty members for the top honor.
Also included is her Statistics paper on voting trends during economic crises.

Elya Turns 21 in Baguio!
We were fortunate to have Elya over for more than a week, and we all enjoyed talking, touring, and partying with her and her friends Jen Don, Vince Villa, and Riley Gardner.
Tita Tami and Tito Nelson took Elya shopping (she later told us how she loves shopping with her Auntie Tami), and brought them to Tagaytay where they saw the sights and toured the volcano. The cousins also took them out to fun places, making them try exciting food. They took a liking to sisig, that’s for sure. Tito Peter and Kuya JP took them to all the nice spots in Baguio, and Tito Andy and Tita Nanette brought them to the beach.
The night before she left for Manila, and then for the States, we had a simple but scrumptious dinner at the Penthouse
(pizza, salad, stuffed potatoes, baked macaroni which Elya and her friends thought was some kind of cake, and lovely panna cotta) and we surprised her with a cake and sang her Happy Birthday. Then the kids took big slices of the cake and ate it. 
It was good fun, and it a great opportunity to bond as a family. It was certainly a treat having her here. We miss you, Elya!
